Mr Simon Howroyd is a Research Associate based in the Aeronautical & Automotive Engineering department at Loughborough University.

After completing a Masters of Aeronautical Engineering, specialising in control systems, he went on to do a PhD with the Doctoral Training Centre for Hydrogen Fuel Cells & their Applications, focusing on powering a small, autonomous, remote controlled plane (UAV) with a hybrid battery and fuel cell combination.  The practical work involved both solid oxide fuel cells and hydrogen based PEM fuel cells.

Simon’s particular skills are in modelling, control and electronics and has a fascination with being able to solve problems with custom devices.  For example, he recently developed a low cost but accurate device for testing supercapacitors autonomously.
